What is wasabi?

If you love sushi, then you must be knowing how this condiment amps up the taste of this delight. Moreover, this Japanese condiment is often used as a base for sauces and soups as it adds a nice flavour to the dishes.

 

Select a Wasabi Rhizome

Going for a firm and fresh wasabi is the first thing to start with.These are easily available in super markets. They mostly grow in the Asian countries. Wash the rhizomes with running water and drain out the water. Next take a peeler and clean the outer layer by eliminating the spots and bumps. Let the wasabi root dry.

Using a greater or a blender, grate the wasabi. You can also cut a portion and blend it, if you want to make a paste out of it. Gather the grated part and roll it in the shape of a ball. Allow it to sit for sometime and your wasabi is ready.

 

How about wasabi paste

You can either use ready-to-use wasabi powder or fresh wasabi. You just need to mix equal portions of wasabi powder along with some water. Allow this powder and water to blend in completely to form a thick mixture and your paste is ready.

 

How to store it

Storing wasabi for future use is simple. You can add the grated wasabi to an airtight jar along with a spoonful of olive oil, then mix it well and allow it to sit for sometime and refrigerate. You can use it anytime and accentuate the taste of your meals.
